SLAM (Student Leaders Anti-racism Movement) Training

Our LEAD class and a select few other students got to spend quality time with Dr. Lori Watson this past Friday. Students participated in a SLAM training to build their leadership skills in social justice and racial equity. Students also had an opportunity to connect further with one another. They explored topics such as stereotypes, bias, microaggressions and practiced how to respond to scenarios if they were to happen in our community. Our students are working to ensure Miller Creek is an inclusive environment for all students. We are Stronger Together!

In anticipation of our long Holiday break, during which many of our families will be traveling and gathering, we want to be proactive in presenting new guidelines from Public Health. Whether you are traveling out of state or hosting others from out of state, gathering outside or inside, please be mindful to protect yourselves and others from the Coronavirus and its new variant (Omnicron) by limiting the size of your gathering, wearing masks indoors, distancing and testing before returning to school. Please take action now to acquire home antigen tests you can administer as suggested below.

New guidance from Public Health encourages families to test their children (Sunday) at home before returning to school (Monday) and again 5 days after returning from holiday travel (in state) and family gatherings. Note that the travel guidance states that children who are not fully vaccinated (two weeks after the second dose of vaccine) and returning from out-of-state-travel may return to school under a Modified Quarantine (no extracurricular activities for 8 days) and should test on Day 5 after returning home from travel. Students may end Modified Quarantine on Day 8 with a negative test if not symptomatic.

Of course, the Decision Trees are still in effect should your student develop symptoms or discover they have been exposed to COVID. Please notify the school immediately, even over the holiday break, and see your healthcare provider.

Here is a resource listing the FDA approved rapid/home/antigen tests that are available for purchase at most drug stores or online. However, as a service to our Prather families we will be handing out home antigen tests to students during the next week. Please keep these two tests, one to be used on the Sunday before returning to class, and the other in case your student is showing any symptoms over the break. There will be instructions on how to use them, and where to report the results, positive or negative, included with the tests.

December 10th

Panther Life skills: On Monday students in homeroom classes discussed microaggressions and practiced how to interrupt biased or hateful speech. Students also pledged to be a No Place for Hate School and signed the Miller Creek Resolution of Respect poster at lunch. We’re excited to continue working with students throughout this month, bringing attention to other perspectives, backgrounds and cultures.

Panthers Stand Strong During Spirit Day.

New Attendance Line

Hello Parents! Some of you may have noticed a new voice on the main school line when calling in. We are transitioning to a new phone tree. Now when you need to report an absence or late arrival all you need to do is dial the main line and press 1. You will be taken directly to the attendance line voicemail and can leave a message like normal. We will still be checking the old mailbox during the transition. In the future please dial the main phone line for all of your school needs. The main line phone number is (415)-492-3760

This holiday season, please join us in our mission by making a year-end, charitable contribution to Can Do!. Your tax-deductible donation supports ALL students in the Miller Creek School District.

Our annual suggested ask is $600, but any amount helps continue to fund these vital programs for your students. Together, we Can Do!
