February Black History Month
February 1-5 8th Grade TLHS Course Selection Process Begins
February 15-19 Mid-Winter Recess

Black History Month isn't only about celebrating the past contributions of African Americans. It includes acknowledging current day contributions and preparing the next generation to create and sustain a humane society. I encourage families to spend time this month and beyond highlighting Black Excellence. Here are a few options to start with:

  • Black Sororities and Fraternities
  • Black Entrepreneurs
  • Black Leaders
  • Black Organizers
  • Black Activist
  • Historically Black Colleges and Universities

Black Excellence is all around us. Our Panthers will soon be in charge of this country. Let's make sure they have the knowledge, experiences and support to do better than we did. We are Stronger Together!

This week, 43 thoughtful and engaged student leaders attended the first of two trainings with Dr. Lori Watson, founder and CEO of Race Works. Here is what our Leadership Ally Team students said about the workshop:

“I liked hearing about others' stories, what happened to them and what they wanted to change (even though the stories were of unkind things) because now we can look out for those things and help when we see them happening.”

“I really enjoyed hearing so many different students from different backgrounds talk about a common goal and ways to stop racism. If everyone was as polite, kind, and observant as everyone on the zoom call, the world would be a much better place.”

Our Leadership Ally Team, staff and students will continue to celebrate and honor Black History Month at Miller Creek in February. We invite parents to continue these important conversations at home.

Way to go to our Positive Panthers for January!

Keep on showing your Positive Panther spirit and earn prizes!
